Mauricio Leiva-Cock

Growing up in Colombia influenced Mauricio to see the world in a different way. Reality, even though stark, was always infused with magical moments. When he began watching films, he quickly realized cinema's potential as a tool for change - its capacity to depict different ways of living, to expose different worlds. Sprinkled with dark humor and satire, he uses genre to tell stories that have real world ramifications. As a writer-director, Mauricio's short films and feature scripts have been in festivals and residences worldwide, including TIFF Talent Lab, BAFICI Talent Campus, ScriptConnect, Morelia, Beijing and Huesca. He is the recipient of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Fellowship, the HSF McNamara Grant and the Colfuturo-Proimagenes Scholarship, and graduated with Honors from Columbia University’s MFA in Film. Currently, he is co-directing, co-writing and re-enacting the animated feature LA OLLA MÁGICA, which is being hand drawn in Bogotá, the rainy city atop the Colombian mountains.
